Transportation
The Asilomar Conference Grounds are located in Pacific Grove, which is adjacent to and west of Monterey, California. It is about a two-hour drive from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Oakland International Airport (OAK) or an hour and half from San Jose International Airport (SJC).
Asilomar is about 20 minutes drive from the Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY). MRY is served by United Express and American Eagle from SFO and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), with some US Airways flights from Phoenix. Depending on the airline and origin city, it may not be any more expensive to fly into MRY than one of the Bay Area airports, although the connection at SFO, LAX, or Phoenix would add to the travel time.
The Monterey Airbus (www.montereyairbus.com) runs about every hour and a half and serves both SFO and SJC on the same run. It takes about two and a quarter hours to the Monterey Transit Plaza from SFO. The fare is $45 each way. They will drop off and pick up at Asilomar for an additional fare of $15. They also provide service between MRY and Asilomar between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm for a fare of $25 for one or two people. There is a 5% discount for reservations made on line.
A taxi from Monterey Peninsula Airport to Asilomar will cost $20 to $25.
The Monterey-Salinas Transit bus system (www.mst.org) serves both MRY and Asilomar via a connection at the Monterey Transit Plaza to the Route 1X Asilomar-Lovers' Point bus. Service is hourly. The fare is $2.50 and transfers are free. During most of the day service between MRY and the Transit Plaza is operated by the DART demand-responsive service. See the Monterey-Salinas Transit website for details.
Driving directions to the Conference Grounds are available on the Asilomar website at www.visitasilomar.com.
